The year saw significant movement in areas like NFC technology in mobile wallets, the rise of BNPL services, and the growth of financial media networks (FMNs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their forecast about mobile wallet adoption held true, with Apple Pay and other services continuing to expand their NFC capabilities. Despite NFC partnerships still being limited in the U.S., mobile wallet usage surged globally, with over 31% of U.S. consumers now using digital wallets in-store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tesla-car-key-could-be-integrated-with-apple-wallet\">Tesla Car Key Could Be Integrated with Apple Wallet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While unconfirmed, recent code references <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/25\/12\/29\/apple-car-key-could-make-its-way-to-tesla-vehicles\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/25\/12\/29\/apple-car-key-could-make-its-way-to-tesla-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggest Tesla could be added to Apple Wallet\u2019s Car Key feature<\/a> in the future. iPhone and Apple Watch users could soon be able to unlock and start their Tesla vehicles directly from the Wallet app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This feature already works with other car brands, and the potential expansion to Tesla would be a significant step forward. The feature allows users to link their bank accounts directly to Samsung Wallet for easy payments without needing a debit card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samsung Wallet Points rewards users for each transaction, offering points that can be redeemed like cash for future purchases. Currently available in South Korea, Samsung plans to continue expanding the Wallet ecosystem with more features and benefits for users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"samsung-wallet-adds-porsche-digital-key\">Samsung Wallet adds Porsche Digital Key<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Samsung is <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/global\/samsung-wallet-enhances-vehicle-connectivity-with-porsche-digital-key-integration\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/global\/samsung-wallet-enhances-vehicle-connectivity-with-porsche-digital-key-integration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expanding Samsung Wallet\u2019s \u201ccar key\u201d feature<\/a> by adding support for select Porsche vehicles. Galaxy users will be able to lock, unlock, and start the Porsche Macan (model year 2026) using their phone, with Cayenne Electric support planned next. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samsung says the rollout begins in Europe in December, followed by wider availability as Porsche\u2019s launch timelines progress, with protections like secure on-device storage, sharing controls, and remote disable options through Samsung Find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"rivian-digital-key-lands-in-samsung-wallet-for-gen-2-r-1-s-and-r-1-t\">Rivian Digital Key lands in Samsung Wallet for Gen 2 R1S and R1T<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Rivian\u2019s latest vehicle software update adds support for a <a href=\"https:\/\/sammyguru.com\/rivian-adds-samsung-wallet-digital-car-key-support-with-latest-update\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sammyguru.com\/rivian-adds-samsung-wallet-digital-car-key-support-with-latest-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">phone based Digital Key<\/a> that can be stored in Samsung Wallet on compatible Galaxy devices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The feature is rolling out with Rivian software version 2025.46 for second generation R1 models, letting owners unlock and start the vehicle with their phone and share access with others. Rivian notes you will need the Rivian app 3.8.0 or newer and Android 15 or later, with NFC and Bluetooth support on the phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mobile-wallet-developments-worldwide\">Mobile Wallet Developments Worldwide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>December\u2019s biggest mobile wallet developments were less about new apps and more about connectivity. Cross border QR links expanded in Asia, and Europe saw the first real wave of iPhone tap to pay competition as NFC access opened up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cross-border-qr-payments-pick-up-speed-in-asia\">Cross border QR payments pick up speed in Asia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>China and Vietnam officially <a href=\"https:\/\/english.www.gov.cn\/news\/202512\/03\/content_WS692f84f2c6d00ca5f9a07e18.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/english.www.gov.cn\/news\/202512\/03\/content_WS692f84f2c6d00ca5f9a07e18.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched bilateral QR code payments<\/a> on December 2, letting Chinese visitors pay at VietQR accepting merchants using their existing mobile payment tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later in the month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theasset.com\/index.php\/article\/55578\/cambodia-laos-launch-second-phase-of-qr-code-payments-link\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theasset.com\/index.php\/article\/55578\/cambodia-laos-launch-second-phase-of-qr-code-payments-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cambodia and Laos launched Phase 2<\/a> of their cross border QR link on December 19. Lao citizens can scan KHQR codes at about 4.5 million Cambodian merchants using their mobile banking apps and pay in their own currency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"visa-backed-nfc-wallets-launch-in-europe\">Visa-backed NFC wallets launch in Europe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 2, Visa said it enabled <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.visa.com\/en\/sites\/visa-perspectives\/company-news\/visa-launches-new-digital-wallets-in-europe.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/corporate.visa.com\/en\/sites\/visa-perspectives\/company-news\/visa-launches-new-digital-wallets-in-europe.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three new digital wallets in Europe<\/a> that use NFC with Host Card Emulation on iOS, following iPhone NFC access opening up under the EU\u2019s DMA.
