Some things spell disaster while others scream opportunity. So each week, I’m going to provide you with some updates from the news that could affect your marketing strategy, for either better or worse. So checkout this week’s weekly marketing roundup.

Google Chrome now has 1 billion users on mobile

Google Chrome reaching 1 billion users on mobile each month is a pretty good sized milestone. This is big news considering it comes alongside an update that has the Physical Web capabilities built right into Chrome for Android. This means that all 1 billion of these users have the ability to receive Physical Web notifications through their Chrome browser. This is big news for marketers looking to harness the ability of the Physical Web.

Why is this important?

The Physical Web allows people to receive URL’s that are broadcasted from beacons without having to download an app. Google recently rolled out an update to Chrome for Android that allows people to receive and view these URL’s right in Chrome. This feature has been enabled on Chrome for iOS since last July so now both Android and iOS have support for the Physical Web. So now with over 1 billion users per month between both systems, this gives marketers a large scale of people that they can potentially reach.

Source: TechCrunch

Google is now allowing podcasts to be play directly in search app for Android

Podcasts are still alive and well, and now Google is making it even easier for listeners to find their favorite podcasts or even something new. A new update to the Google Search app allows podcasts to be displayed in the search results and played directly from these results. They even continue in the background if you lock your screen or close the app, which is a nice feature to have.

Why is this important?

This is important because podcasts are becoming increasingly popular among content marketers and this update gives your podcasts another way to be found and viewed. So if you are or are thinking about starting a podcast, definitely make sure you show up in the Google’s Search app.

Source: TheVerge

Every week, updates are released, products are announced, or an event happens that could potentially affect your marketing strategy.
