It’s now the morning of WWDC. And with speculation that Apple Pay is coming to the UK running high, are there new security concerns you should look our for?
1) Apple Pay Security: Issues or Intended?
Apparently, Apple didn’t make a mistake earlier this year when Apple Pay potential security concerns emerged. The lapse in verification between Apple and Banks might not have been a flaw, but instead planned to make sign-up as seamless and easy as possible. And it actually makes a lot sense when you think about it. As ZDNet quoted, “Card issuers went so far as to green path Apple Pay accounts, meaning that no additional authentication was needed for an Apple Pay user to get their wallet up and running, other than measures built into the iPhone.”
This at first might seem like a major security risk, but it’s actually not so silly an idea. Convenience is still king. And when racing for adoption, you need to make your new services as convenient as possible – even if that includes removing major bank authentication processes. So we would expect to see a similar security situation when Apple Pay launches in the UK (predicted to be announced at WWDC later today). Let’s see how fraudsters deal with it, or Apple/the banks deal with them.
(SUN JUNE 7, 2015 – 8:30 PM PDT)
1) Codename Proactive: Key Apple iOS Update?
Watch out Google Now. Apple is readying a possible challenger. According to 9to5mac Apple are soon to reveal an integrated search that will make use of Siri, Calendar, and most importantly to you, PASSBOOK. Reporter Mark Gurman claims that it’s a result of…”an evolution of iOS Spotlight Search…the acquisition of a personal assistant app called Cue…and integration of core iOS apps” – like Apple Mapes.
2) Apple Pay UK, And Europe?
It’s rumored that Apple Pay are setting up a dedicated team in the UK. MacWorld.co.uk claims the service will launch as soon as this summer (to be announced tonight at WWDC 2015) – with a further European rollout happening later in the year. NOTE: Everything on this blog that comes out before the official launch of WWDC is merely speculation and rumor, rounded up from across the web. Take it with a pinch of PassKit.
