Sharing-feature052-1024x971

Every week, updates are released, products are announced, or an event happens that could potentially affect your marketing strategy. Some things spell disaster while others scream opportunity. So each week, I’m going to provide you with some updates from the news that could affect your marketing strategy, for either better or worse. So checkout this week’s weekly marketing roundup.

YouTube adds messaging to mobile app

A small group of YouTube users just got access to a new future on YouTube’s mobile app. The new feature is a type of messenger that lets you converse with others via text, photos, and links inside the YouTube mobile app, including sharing videos and talking about them directly. The few who have the feature can gift it to others by inviting them to a conversation. YouTube thinks this new feature will result in users sharing more video since they can do it natively inside the app.

Why is this important?

YouTube is becoming an extremely powerful force. Just last week they released that they have a larger audience than traditional TV within the 18-49 year old demographic. This makes them an extremely important asset for marketers. If this new feature does in fact increase the amount of video sharing then it will also increase the power YouTube has in the marketing world.

More bots will be coming to Facebook Messenger soon

The head of product for Facebook has given us a glimpse into the future of Facebook Messenger bots. Speaking in an interview at TechCrunch Disrupt on Tuesday, Stan Chudnovsky said there are “tens of thousands” of developers currently working on bots for the platform. Despite having somewhat of a slow rollout, Facebook is ramping up their effort. They also hinted at adding analytics so that brands could see how their bots were performing.

Why is this important?

This shows that Facebook, as well as developers, are taking bots seriously. Facebook has put a lot of effort into adding new features into Messenger and bots is their main focus. This is something that all brands may want to keep an eye on in case it really takes off in the near future.
