Subway Passbook Pass with Scannable QR Code
Subway has partnered with PassKit to be the first company in Hong Kong to offer Passbook coupons, that fit conveniently in Apple’s iPhone wallet. With iPhone in hand, patrons simply visit http://pass.is/subway, or scan the QR code. Walking close to the participating Subway outlets will activate a subtle reminder. Swipe the pass from the lock screen, show the pass to the friendly Subway staff, a quick scan and hey presto, a free can of drink with any 6’’ or 12’’ sandwich. No paper, no hassle
With the recent launch of Apple’s Passbook, Subway, under one of its franchisees Uppal Hospitality Group (UHG), is the first company in Hong Kong to offer digital vouchers, that fit conveniently in your iPhone wallet.
With your iPhone in your hand, all you need to do is visit http://pass.is/subway, or scan the QR code on the right. If you have the new iPhone 5 or the latest operating system (iOS6) installed on your iPhone or iPod touch you’ll be presented with the Passbook voucher immediately.
Simply add the voucher to Passbook and the next time you walk close to the participating Subway outlets your phone will subtly remind you. Swipe the pass from your lock screen, show the pass to the friendly Subway staff, they’ll quickly scan it and hey presto, a free can of drink with your 6’’ or 12’’ sandwich. No paper, no hassle.
As one customer said “This is so cool. I used to throw the paper vouchers away or forget all about them in my wallet until they expired. I always have my phone with me, so this is going to save me a fortune without having a bulky wallet full of paper”.
And Passbook allows you to store so much more than just vouchers. The wallet application will hold boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards and more in your iPhone, all at the touch of a finger. More and more companies across the world are issuing Passbook Passes now, and Uppal Hospitality Group leads the way in Hong Kong.  Their Marketing & Public Relations Manager, Yvonne Ma, reported “We are delighted to showcase Passbook in Hong Kong. This free drink voucher is a simple example of how we are using technology to make our dining experiences more convenient and exciting for our customers.  We have many other plans for Passbook with Subway and our other specialty restaurants such as Jashan and Spice; including loyalty cards, store value cards and of course our regular special offers – now in digital format.”
To provide the Passbook service, UHG partnered with another Hong Kong company, PassKit, who’s pioneering technology enables businesses of all sizes to integrate Passbook into their marketing and operations.  Paul Tomes, CEO said “It’s been a delight to work with UHG. Through Passbook, they can now offer a more engaging experience to their customers, gain superior market intelligence and further elevate themselves as a forward thinking dynamic group.  Using our tools and infrastructure, they have been able to achieve all this in less time and cost than the average paper based campaign.”
