With the official release of iOS 10 today, let’s take a look at the main features and changes that you will notice in your iPhone.
Lock-screen touch and go
The first and most evident thing that visually stands out in iOS 10 is the new layout of the lock-screen. You can now swipe the screen to access apps like Calendar, Weather, and Stocks for a quick glance at the information you need. Also, to unlock your iPhone you now have to press the home button (swipe to unlock before) and then use finger ID or password.
Apple Wallet
A few changes occurred in iOS 10 for Apple Wallet as well. The first thing you will notice when you flip the pass is that you can now read the pass description on the top side (picture on the left below). Also, a ‘remove pass’ button has been added on the back (picture on the right) which has replaced the previous ‘delete’.
Rich notifications
Probably one of the best updates in terms of location, proximity marketing and lock-screen notifications. On iOS 10 it is possible to view photos and videos or respond to a message right in your notifications. Notifications used to be displayed on a single row only and you had to swipe to enter your iPhone. The image below shows a comparison of notification in iOS 9 versus iOS 10.
Apple Pay online
With iOS 10 it is now possible to make online payments for the first time through Apple Pay from within the browser. This is going to open a whole new set of e-commerce opportunities. Please take a look at this article to find out more about Apple Pay.
Siri opened to third party Apps
Apple has opened Siri to third-party developers, so you’ll now be able to perform many more actions with your voice. Siri is also coming to the Mac. Tasks such as searching for YouTube videos on Apple TV, sending money to someone or booking a ride through Lyft are now just one voice command away.
Write it yourself
iMessage received some significant changes, including the option to send a message in your own handwriting. The writing looks animated, just as ink flows on paper.
Stickers
Another feature that can downloaded from the App store and added to iMessage is stickers. It is now possible to send stickers in the same way you can do it on Facebook Messenger or WeChat.
Tap to replace emojis
When you are typing some text in iOS 10, the dictionary automatically detects emojis that are relevant to that specific text. For example, if you type the word ‘lol’ you will be prompted a laughing emoji, or if you type an animal name you will see the emoji of that animal appearing on the suggestions.
Invisible ink
Invisible ink a new feature that allows to send a photo or message that remains invisible until you swipe on it.
