pass certificates
For those who have a free PassKit account and have not uploaded your own certificate, you may have noticed that the barcode is now greyed out when you add it to your mobile wallet.
The reason for this is that Apple requires all Passbook passes to be signed by the entity that will be distributing the pass, under its own name, trademark, or brand. Anyone who issues a pass must do so using their own certificate.
Certificates, also referred to as Pass IDs, play an important role in how a Pass functions in Passbook and other mobile wallets. For example, updating a pass to reflect a new store card balance, adding digital stamps to your customers’ stamp card, or verifying that a pass is authentic.
We provide access to certificates solely for the purpose of demonstrating and testing our platform. In all cases, you should be using your own certificate to issue passes commercially.

What should you do?

To remove the barcode restriction, simply upload a valid Apple-issued pass certificate to your account. You can follow our guide to Uploading Certificates.
To generate a barcode image that you can use for testing purposes, create a pass in the passkit designer.
If you have any questions, simply visit contact our support chat. Our team and the PassKit community is here to help.
